Welcome everyone, to the Tuesday, 7 July 2026 editon of the club newsletter.
Club business
We have received a complaint about our General Data Protection Regulations implementation and two comments on our clubs policy and WhatsApp group.
The GDPR implementation should have happened at the end of 2018 and was proposed to follow the GDPR waiver for small clubs guidance issued at that time.
This guidance was removed in 2020, so a small club waiver was no longer permissible under the regulations.
I have had to develop a process that complies with the current regulations but which is not too onerous to follow.
This will mean you will need to sign a form that will be keep securely for the duration of your membership.
You will also see a change in the emails sent out and will no longer be able to see other’s email addresses.
We will rely on WhatsApp more to allow you to interact with each other – this means WhatApp will be for paid up members only and work as a closed group (previously we allowed lapsed members to stay in the group for a further 12 months).
WhatsApp will change in the near future to allow you to select a user name thus removing visibility of your phone numbers.
I have also had to write the Club Charter (rules) which we will share and save a copy onto our WebSite for future reference.
Wednesday Wanderers Report
Report of Wednesday wanderings, and the next event will be at Jordans Mill on the 29th July
“For last week’s outing, we had 10 members in 6 assorted MGs going to Buckden village near Grafham Water.
Organising was a bit tricky as firstly the trip was postponed from the previous week because of the heatwave, then I couldn’t find a convenient halfway place for a comfort stop.
I also had difficulty in getting information about parking in Buckden, and available toilets. However, we had a smooth drive there with an early stop at Wixams and a surprisingly easy glide through the notorious roadworks on the Black Cat roundabout onto the A1.
First we visited Buckden Towers, a site originally established in the 12th century as the palace of the Bishops of Lincoln, and now a community and religious retreat. It was very peaceful there, we looked in the pretty church and strolled in the grounds.
We were impressed by an enormous American sycamore tree where 7 of us couldn’t reach to hold hands round the trunk.
We then had coffee/tea/ice cream in a brand-new coffee shop. Next was lunch in a pub which was an old coaching inn where we
enjoyed delicious food.
Afterwards some of us drove along to the marina and admired the assorted craft moored there, then made our way home.
So after a stressful time planning, I was relieved that it turned out to be a most enjoyable day thankfully in a comfortable temperature.”

Club Tours – We have been asked to consider different activities for the club and one of the suggestions is a visit to the British Motor Heritage Factory Tour (Witney) This would be a weekday event probably not part of the Wednesday wanderings. Watch this space for further details.
Events
Club stands will be booked if the organisers of the shows allow, however the recent trend is for organisers to only allow individuals to book on-line with various options employed for the club stand, examples are:- Club Name for Chiltern Hills Rally and a club code issued for Kimbolton .
Some shows are turn up only and a few are display by age – we will endeavour to advise you of how and when to book your tickets well in advance where possible.
